When she first appears in the series, Juvia seems like a walking definition of the word “gloomy”. An emotionless face, a never-ending rain that accompanies her arrival and depressing atmosphere around her doesn’t make any better first impression.
It isn’t said clearly in the series why, but when Juvia was younger the rain was always with her everywhere she went. Because of this, she wasn’t liked, especially by boys. They didn’t want to talk to her and so Juvia became unhappy and gloomy. She hoped that by making the Teru Teru Bozu dolls, she’ll make the rain go away, but that never happened. The lonely little Juvia grew into a depressed looking woman, that was sure nobody will accept her if the rain won’t stop. She quickly gained the alias of a “rain woman” and began to hate the rain. Her wish was to make it go away, as well as to find a boy that would be her prince charming.
Which soon happened. The battle against Gray Fullbuster changed Juvia’s life completely. Juvia fell in love with Gray at the first sight and started to think they are destined to be with each other, seeing as he was the ice mage and she was a water mage. After she was defeated, Juvia for the first time in her life saw the sun as the rain suddenly went away.
...And from that point on Juvia started stalking Gray. Yes. Because you must know that Juvia’s love for him is more of a schoolgirl’s crush than anything else. She idolizes Gray, thinking about him as if he was the greatest person in the whole world. She’s also extremely jealous, which combined with how quick she is to jump to a conclusion or misinterpreted someone’s words (especially Gray’s), as well as her unbelievable imagination and how stubborn she can get, is definitely nothing good. When Juvia fought against Gray, she misunderstood his words when he said he’s fighting for Lucy’s sake. Juvia was sure that means Lucy is his girlfriend! That “revelation” made her extremely mad and also made her hate Lucy for a long time. Moreover, when she was later told that she is mistaken and that Lucy isn’t Gray’s girlfriend she still treated her as a “rival in love”.
And if that wasn’t enough, Juvia actually assumes that all girls in Fairy Tail are after Gray. With this kind of thinking, she is sometimes seen playing pranks on them, though not as much as she does on Lucy – her “main rival”. But even though she treats her like that at the beginning, the two eventually seems to become friends. But to make all of this even more ridiculous, despite how obvious Juvia is with her love, Gray does not seem to notice anything.
As Juvia stalked the ice mage, she also observed the guild itself and she quickly fell in love with the warm and lively atmosphere, to the point when she knew she wants to join up. She changed her hairstyle and outfit to quickly integrate herself with the guild. And being part of the it made her really happy. Even though people still were a little afraid of her, since she was a member of the guild Phantom Lord earlier, she tried her best to be recognized by all of them. From a gloomy person, Juvia quickly grew happy and optimistic.
And this is actually the truth of Juvia’s nature- all her feelings are showing. When she feels down and lonely she looks like that as well. The same is when she’s happy – you can see her smile and act cheerfully. When she’s angry she’ll just strike with all her rage or glare daggers at the person she dislikes. Even though for most of the time she seems like a calm person, the truth is she is very emotional.
And it should be noted that her magic is also influenced by her emotion. For example, when she gets furious, her spells become extremely violent.
Being so strongly driven by her heart, logical thinking is sometimes lost on Juvia. She refuses to listen when people tell her she is wrong and she often thinks her judgment is the most correct. She is also really stubborn and the fact that she can quickly jump to a really ridiculous conclusion (especially when Gray is involved) is a great disadvantage. Telling her that she’s mistaken at the point when she’s in rage is completely pointless. And she can get into such state pretty easily. Just tell her you talked with Gray and she can pretty much tell the rest herself.
Juvia is willing to do almost everything for Gray. She even follows his every commend without a question (if you can say it like that). When Gray tells her to follow Meredy, Juvia does so without thinking twice, even despite the fact that her leg was injured and she was unable to walk. Another thing is that Juvia would never allow anyone to do anything to Gray – if someone would try to kill him, she would went into a fury and crush them.
But Gray is not the only love Juvia has. She also cares deeply for all her comrades from Fairy Tail. The best example for how much Juvia actually cares for the members of Fairy Tail and how much she wants to be recognized by them, is the battle against her and Fried. When Fried locked both Cana and Juvia in his seal, forcing the two to fight each other if they wish to free themselves from it, Juvia chose to sacrifice herself, because she couldn’t bring herself to attack her comrade. She later admits that she loves members of Fairy Tail too much.
But even though Juvia is quick to sacrifice herself in order to save her friends, she wouldn’t take herself to the point of dying. She has a strong belief that as long as she has someone she loves she has to stay alive. And in her eyes the same belief applies to everyone. When Meredy wants to sacrifice herself to kill Gray, Juvia hugs her and tells her that she can’t do it, that she has to live. It didn’t matter to her that Meredy is an enemy, it didn’t matter anymore that she wanted to kill Gray -Juvia just wanted to tell the girl what it is the most important thing in life. Just as long as you have someone you love, you have to live, she told her. Because for Juvia love is that most important thing.
As a note, she is later shown to be good friends with Meredy and she gets along quickly with people who have similar experience like her.

Juvia’s body is made from water, which also means that any physical attacks and some magical ones have no effect on her. After she’s hit by those, her body turns into water on the impact, then “regenerates” itself.
Juvia is able to turn herself into water whenever she wants.
-Magic:
+Water Bubbles – oxygen trapped into a water bubbles. It allows one to breathe underwater.
+Water Cane – Juvia creates canes to strike the target
+Water Dome - a camouflage Juvia use to hide the boat, when they were going to the Tower of Heaven (only in the anime)
+Water Jigsaw – creates mass of water that slices the enemy like a saw
+Water Lock – a prison created out of water to trap her enemies. It can be recreated if damaged.
+Water Nabula – column of water strikes the opponent and sends them upwards
+Water Slicer – a blades created from Juvia’s water body that stab the enemy
+Sierra – when Juvia is in a state of great rage, her body changes into a boiling water.
+Union Raid – a magic that allows Juvia to fuse her magic with someone else’s.

Rain was falling and Juvia kept watching it. Her face was expressionless as she continued doing so. A pink umbrella was above her head, protecting her from the rain, even though there was no need for her to do that. Juvia’s body was made from water. She would not mind rain all that much...
...If she only didn’t hate it so much.
The world was so gloomy and sad when the rain was falling. Juvia could not see the light, she could not see the sun.
The girl’s eyes narrowed.
“Juvia... cannot stand this any longer.” she gritted threw her teeth. Her expression turned angry...
“Juvia... Juvia cannot stay here without him!” she yelled and the moment later she was crying a literal river, the saddest look picturing on her face. Water was starting to gather beneath her feet, but she didn’t seem to notice.
“Juvia wants to go back home...” she said. “Sir Gray... you will not leave Juvia here... You will come for Juvia...” she continued, looking in the distance as if Gray was going to show there any minute that.
But of course he didn’t and the girl just ended up crying even more. How could be the fate so cruel to her?!
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I wanted to play Juvia somewhere again and considering her imagination, I thought it would be a lot of fun playing her here.
